Schellroda (dpa/th) - A sports car driver lost control of his car on the road between Schellroda and Egstedt (Weimarer Land) and was seriously injured. The 34-year-old let his tuned car drift on the country road on Friday evening, the police said on Saturday morning. Because of the high speed, he lost control.
He left the lane, hit a traffic sign and rolled over in the ditch in the oncoming lane. That's where the car caught fire. The 34-year-old and his 32-year-old passenger were rescued from the burning vehicle by witnesses. The driver was taken to the hospital, the passenger suffered only minor injuries. The car burned out completely, the police estimate the property damage at 120,000 euros. The driver is now being investigated for illegal motor vehicle racing and negligent bodily harm.
