Erfurt (dpa/th) - In Thuringia, the number of flu infections has increased significantly. In the reporting week from November 14th to 20th, 673 influenza diseases were recorded, as the Thuringian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday, citing figures from the Robert Koch Institute. In the week before there were only 312. For comparison: In the entire flu season 2022/2023 in Thuringia only 1046 influenza cases were registered.
The data also shows that the increase in flu infections in the current season is taking place much earlier than in the years before the corona pandemic. In the two flu seasons 2018/2019 and 2019/2020, the number of cases increased significantly in January, February and March. In November, on the other hand, the numbers were lower than in the current season.
According to the data, flu illnesses were most common in schools and kindergartens in the third week of November. Of all age groups, five to nine year olds were most affected, followed by the one to four year old group.
