Thuringia: student representative criticizes the status of digitization

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The new chairwoman of the state student council, Helena Haaré, has called for more efforts to be made in digitization in schools. Both the technical equipment of the schools themselves and the further training of the teachers must be pushed, the 17-year-old said on Saturday of the German Press Agency. In some cases, teachers have too little idea of how to use and the possibilities of the technology. "At my school, some teachers use smartboards in the same way as traditional blackboards."

The shortage of teachers is also a concern for many students, especially in the upper grades, said Haaré. As a result, teaching material is missed that has to be reworked independently. In addition, career changers should receive more intensive pedagogical training, she demanded.

Haaré was elected the new chair for two years at the regional student day on Saturday. She attends the 11th grade at the Friedrich-Schiller-Gymnasium in Weimar.
