When comparing the tax burden from property tax per inhabitant, Thuringia came to an average of 114 euros in 2021 - one of the lowest values nationwide and only about half as high as the leader North Rhine-Westphalia. Only Saxony-Anhalt and Brandenburg were slightly lower. In the neighboring state of Saxony, the average value was 127 euros. The nationwide average for a per capita burden from property tax was 175 euros.
Nationwide, property tax also rose more slowly in 2021 than in previous years. According to the study, eight percent of German municipalities increased their assessment rate in 2021. This figure was last lower in 2009.
