Leipzig/Erfurt (dpa/th) - People in Thuringia can expect a hot week. The high "Jürgen" is responsible for the heat, as a spokesman for the German Weather Service (DWD) said on Monday.

The week starts with a clear to cloudy Monday and temperatures up to 32 degrees. During the night it is expected to cool down to a low of 11 degrees. According to the forecast, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be the hottest days of the week. The DWD spokesman thought a heat warning was likely.

Temperatures will climb to 38 degrees on Tuesday with plenty of sunshine and light winds. At night it cools down to 12 degrees. Wednesday starts sunny with up to 39 degrees. In the afternoon it will be partly overcast and the wind will pick up.

An approaching cold front brings some heavy showers and thunderstorms to Thuringia at night and it cools down to 15 degrees. Thursday will be changeable, but mostly dry. According to the meteorologists, the temperatures will be around 30 degrees, and it will be windy in places. Friday night will be cloudy with low temperatures of 11 degrees. On Friday it will be up to 30 degrees warm in some places. According to the DWD spokesman, the temperatures will settle between 25 and 28 degrees.n Due to the persistent drought, there is still a risk of forest fires in the Free State.
