Thuringia: Taubert against longer deadline for information on property tax reform

Ilmenau (dpa/th) - Thuringia's Finance Minister Heike Taubert (SPD) rejects an extension of the deadline for submitting declarations on the property tax reform. The deadline by the end of October cannot be extended because the tax offices needed some time to process the information from the taxpayers, said Taubert on Monday in Ilmenau when visiting the local tax office. With the data from the tax offices, the municipalities have to calculate the property tax according to the new model in 2024.

Taubert rejected the accusation that the collection of the data failed due to a lack of digitization of the financial administration. For days there have been calls, including from tax consultants, but also from opposition politicians, to extend the deadline for submitting information for the new property tax.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the owners of around 1.5 million plots of land in Thuringia have to send information to the tax offices. So far, just over 63,000 declarations have been received.
