Thuringia: Teachers' association calls for health professionals for schools

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The Thuringian Teachers' Association has reiterated its call for health professionals for Thuringian schools. "The fact that we still don't have any school health professionals is solely due to a lack of political will," said the deputy chairman of the Thuringian Teachers' Association, Frank Fritze, on Saturday. Of all the measures to establish multi-professional teams, hiring school health workers is the most cost-effective.

The presence of school health professionals contributes to reducing stress among teachers and educators. "It also promotes inclusion: Because if medical help is on site and the teachers and the class are informed about certain illnesses and emergency measures, then children with chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma or epilepsy can also regularly take part in school activities," says Fritze.

He cited Brandenburg and Hesse as examples, where there had been successful pilot projects.
