Thuringia: Theaters save electricity: dimmed lights in corridors and foyers

In the coming winter, the theaters are to remain open despite rising energy prices. The houses are encouraged to save electricity. There are different approaches in Thuringia.

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Just like companies, municipalities and citizens, the Thuringian theaters are trying to keep their electricity consumption as minimal as possible during the energy crisis. "Due to the current situation, we are currently striving to save 20 percent of our energy consumption," said a spokeswoman for the theater in Erfurt. For example, the lights in the hallways and foyer remained dimmed or off. Neon signs will be reduced to six hours a day. A core working time was also agreed "to reduce the running times of ventilation systems".

The theaters in Rudolstadt and Weimar also report similar measures. It becomes clear that those who have not only been striving for sustainability and climate efficiency since yesterday have a clear advantage. In Rudolstadt, for example, the theater already only uses energy-saving LED lamps, both on the stage and in the public spaces. According to the spokeswoman, 32 percent of the energy consumed in Erfurt is already being generated on the company's own roof - with solar cells.

The heaters in the working rooms of the theaters are also subject to the austerity measures. But the audience shouldn't have to freeze under any circumstances. The spokeswomen of the Thuringian theaters feared that this would "not be accepted either". The audience has already participated enough in recent years. Rather, it is currently unclear how many visitors will find their way to the theater in the coming months and whether the increased cost of living and another Corona winter will not affect the desire for theater. However, all theaters stated that they plan quite normally and that no closures are planned.
