Erfurt (dpa/th) - After a corona-related slump in sales last year, the construction industry in Thuringia recovered significantly in the first quarter of 2022. In the first three months of the year, the main construction trades achieved a total turnover of 444.5 million euros, which corresponded to an increase of 108.6 million euros compared to the same period last year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday. At the same time, companies in the sector received orders worth EUR 565.5 million - EUR 60.3 million more than in the same period last year.
According to the information, all areas of the construction industry benefited equally from the upswing. In public and road construction, the increase was 49.7 million euros or 30.6 percent, in commercial construction it was 48 million euros or 37.2 percent more and in residential construction 12.3 million euros or 31.4 percent more.
In terms of incoming orders, residential construction had to accept a minus of almost 8 million euros (11 percent). In contrast, public and road construction increased by 38.6 million euros or 15.5 percent. In commercial construction, the increase was 29.5 million euros or 15.8 percent compared to the first quarter of 2021.
The construction trade is an employer for more than 14,000 people in Thuringia.
