Thuringia: Thuringia saw more people moving in than out in the past year

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Thuringia recorded significantly more arrivals than departures last year. While 53,895 people moved to the Free State, only 45,415 left it, as the State Statistics Office announced on Friday in Erfurt. This resulted in a so-called migration gain for the Free State of 8480 people. Compared to 2020, it has increased sixfold.

As it was also said, Thuringia showed an overall negative trend compared to the other federal states - but a clear plus from abroad.

A good 2,200 more people moved from Thuringia to another federal state than vice versa. The balance of migration was particularly negative towards North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In contrast, more people moved to Thuringia from Baden-Württemberg, Brandenburg and Bavaria than left in the other direction.

15,518 women, men and children went abroad from Thuringia. 26,247 people moved to Thuringia from abroad. The Free State of Romania recorded the highest migration gains from abroad (plus 1461 people). This was followed by Syria (plus 1043), Poland (plus 775), Afghanistan (plus 666) and India (plus 560).
