Thuringia: Thuringian Forest: Many cross-country trails can only be used to a limited extent

There is currently 40 centimeters of snow in the Thuringian Forest, but many cross-country trails are still not in the best condition. There are also major restrictions due to the Biathlon World Cup around Oberhof.

Oberhof (dpa/th) - The cross-country ski runs and hiking trails in the Thuringian Forest can currently only be used to a limited extent. Most of the routes are contaminated by needles or stones, some trails are also interrupted, said the Thuringian Forest regional association.

Snow depths of up to 40 centimeters are currently being measured. For winter sports enthusiasts there are, among other things, more than 500 kilometers of cross-country skiing trails, 44 winter hiking trails, 20 prepared toboggan slopes and 8 lifts.

Because of the Biathlon World Cup in Oberhof, there are major restrictions in the winter sports area, as the regional association announced. The competitions last until February 19th. "We recommend all active winter sports enthusiasts and tourists who do not want to go to the events to visit the alternative winter sports areas in the Thuringian Forest," the regional association said in a statement.
