Thuringia: Thuringian Left advises on Ramelow's top candidacy

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The top of the Thuringian left today discussed a possible top candidacy of the incumbent Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow for the 2024 state elections. The proposal is to be coordinated with several party committees and then announced (from 3 p.m.). The 66-year-old Ramelow had previously stated that he was ready for another top candidacy. A final decision must be made at a state party conference.

In Thuringia, a new state parliament is scheduled to be elected in 2024. Ramelow has been Prime Minister in the Free State since 2014 with an interruption and so far the only head of government in Germany with a Left party book. Since his re-election in March 2020, he has led a red-red-green minority government that lacks four votes in parliament for majorities.
