Thuringia: Thuringian universities: Lowest admission rate nationwide

Erfurt/Gütersloh (dpa/th) - The universities in Thuringia have the lowest admission rate nationwide. Only 20.7 percent of all courses have a numerus clausus (NC), as the CHE Center for University Development announced on Wednesday in Gütersloh. This means that about four out of five subjects are open to students, regardless of their Abitur grade. On a nationwide average, 39.7 percent of study places have restricted admission. Hamburg has the highest NC rate at 64.8 percent.

In Bavaria, courses in engineering sciences (21.7 percent) most often have admission restrictions, while in languages and cultural studies only about every 16th course offer (6.3 percent) has an NC. In Jena and Erfurt, the two university locations in Thuringia with more than 17,000 students, the proportion of courses with restricted admission is below the state average.
