Thuringia: Tourism in Thuringia not yet at pre-pandemic level

Erfurt (dpa/th) - After the severe slumps during the lockdowns, tourism in Thuringia is developing more positively again, according to industry representatives - with restrictions. "The pre-crisis level has not yet been reached," said Franziska Eichholz from Thüringer Tourismus GmbH (TTG) on request. "Many companies hope for autumn." Although twice as many overnight stays are currently being recorded as in the same period last year, they are still significantly fewer than before the corona crisis. Many holidaymakers book their stay at very short notice, and activities without large crowds and away from the mainstream, such as individual cycling and hiking holidays, are currently in demand, says Eichholz. Holiday apartments and holiday homes are in high demand for overnight stays.

According to official statistics, in the first quarter the accommodation providers recorded twice as many overnight stays as in the same period of the previous year affected by the lockdown, but 30 percent fewer than in the first quarter of 2019. Reliable figures for the development of the main travel season in the summer holidays can only be expected in several weeks.
