Thuringia: Trend: More apartments, but fewer single-family homes

Erfurt (dpa/th) - The sharp rise in construction costs is dampening the demand for homes in Thuringia. Up until September, for example, fewer building permits were issued for one- and two-family houses than in the same period of the previous year. At the same time, the building supervisory authorities gave the go-ahead for more rental and condominium apartments, as the State Statistical Office announced on Thursday.

A total of 3,406 new apartments were approved in Bavaria by September. According to the statistics, that was 17.4 percent or 504 apartments more than in the same period last year. In addition, almost 600 apartments should be created through conversion and expansion.

With 1,461 single and two-family houses planned, 113 fewer building applications were made in the same period. In multi-family houses, on the other hand, 626 more apartments were approved. That corresponds to an increase of 51.3 percent, it said. According to the information, a total of 1,945 apartments in apartment buildings were approved.
