Gera (dpa/th) - An ultralight aircraft crashed near the Gera-Leumnitz airfield - the police and fire brigade are looking for occupants. The small flight probably hit a tree next to the federal highway 7 near the airport and caught fire, said a spokesman for the Gera fire brigade on request. "It burned out completely." The pilot is still being sought, but given the debris field there is a high probability that he did not survive the crash, said the fire department spokesman.
It is unclear whether there was another passenger on the plane. The debris field will also be searched with a thermal imaging camera. The rescue workers could not provide any information on the cause of the accident.
