Thuringia: Visitor center opened at the Leibis/Lichte dam

Unterweißbach (dpa/th) - Day-trippers to the Leibis/Lichte dam (Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district) will be able to find out more about the system there in future in a visitor center. The information center directly on the dam was opened on Monday, as announced by the Thuringian long-distance water supply (TFW).

There you can see interesting facts about the construction and management of the plant. The inflows to the plant are shown in a model as well as the path of the water to the indicator home drinking water treatment plant. There, 44,000 cubic meters of long-distance water for eastern Thuringia are treated every day.

According to the operator, the dam in Leibis/Lichte is the youngest large drinking water dam in Germany and was put into operation in 2013. About 28 million cubic meters of water were dammed up in it on Monday. According to the information, around 350,000 people are supplied with water from the dam.
