Thuringia: Volunteers meet for nature conservation action

Wurzbach (dpa/th) - About 20 volunteers came together in Wurzbach-Titschendorf (Saale-Orla district) on Sunday to take part in an action by the Federal Government for the Environment and Nature Conservation (BUND) Thuringia. In the former border area between Thuringia and Bavaria, they want to get to know how to use the scythe, as the BUND announced. They get the opportunity to do so at the mountain meadow mowing on the "Green Belt", the largest national natural monument in Germany. It lies on the territory of the former inner-German border.

An introduction to traditional meadow mowing with a hand scythe by scythe teacher Mario Knoll from Crimmitschau is planned. According to the information, the volunteers can put their hands on the species-rich mountain meadows in the Pfaffengrund near Rodacherbrunn on Monday. Scythes and tools are provided. The campaign, which will last almost a week, also includes excursions along the "Green Belt", where rare animal and plant species and relics from the division of Germany can be explored.
