Erfurt (dpa/th) - Winter tires for bicycles offer more safety in snow and ice. According to the ADAC Hessen-Thuringia, the bicycle is also an important means of transport in winter. In wintry conditions, however, falls can occur. There are tires that provide grip, especially on hard-packed snowy roads and slush. "The conversion to winter tires with a sipe profile and a softer rubber compound offers significantly more grip compared to standard bicycle tires," says a spokesman for ADAC Hessen-Thüringen. According to the information, only special spike tires provide grip on icy ground.
Nevertheless, the bicycle remains a single-track vehicle and, according to the ADAC, drivers should therefore be careful. A lower tire pressure of two to three bar for summer tires also gives more grip on slippery surfaces.
