Thuringia: Woman caught by regional train and died

Erfurt (dpa/th) - At a level crossing in the Erfurt district of Stotternheim, a pedestrian was hit by a train and fatally injured. According to the first witnesses, she tried to cross the track despite the closed barrier on Sunday afternoon, said a spokesman for the Federal Police Inspectorate in Erfurt. Despite emergency braking, the train did not stop in time and crashed into the woman. There were 27 passengers on the train at the time, all of whom were unharmed. The Sömmerda-Erfurt route was temporarily closed on Sunday due to the accident.
