Thuringia: Young people and refugees are increasing the number of unemployed

Halle (dpa/th) - Unemployment in Thuringia rose again in August, as it did in July. As the regional directorate of Saxony-Anhalt-Thuringia of the Employment Agency announced on Wednesday, 61,500 people were unemployed in August, 2,900 more than in July. The unemployment rate rose to 5.6 percent from 5.4 percent in the previous month.

As expected by experts, the summer effect was reflected in the labor market figures. With the beginning of the holiday season, the number of unemployed among younger people increases because they have just finished school or an apprenticeship and are in a transition phase. In addition, the continued influx of Ukrainian war refugees drove the numbers up.
