Tom Jones operates: The "Sex Bomb" has new hips

Even at 82, Tom Jones is still the "Tiger". But even a tiger is not immune to the wear and tear of life. This is not the first time the singer has had to undergo an operation. The result: "Dad now has two new hips!"

Singer Sir Tom Jones has announced he has had surgery. The 82-year-old announced via Instagram: "Dad now has two new hips!"

He is happy to report that "my recent surgery went very well," continues the "Tiger," as Jones is nicknamed. He promises his fans "that I will follow the instructions and do my physiotherapy". He is happy "so much that I will come back soon".

Tom Jones, who Queen Elizabeth II named "Knight Bachelor" in 2006, underwent left hip surgery in 2017. But recently the right side has also caused him problems, he explained at a press conference in October. The doctors advised him to have another operation.

Jones has had to use an aid at concerts. "I go on stage, I'm fine for about four songs and then it starts to hurt. So I sit on a stool and do the rest from there and everyone loves it," says the singer.

In July, many worried about Jones because he had to cancel a concert in Budapest at short notice due to health problems. In an Instagram statement, he apologized to his fans. During the night he "woke up with an uncomfortable feeling in his throat". A doctor diagnosed him with "viral laryngitis", i.e. laryngitis caused by viruses.

The musician also denied rumors that he had collapsed. "I never 'broke down' anywhere, it's purely a rumor."

Born in Wales in 1940, Jones began his career in the 1960s. He first sang under the pseudonym "Tiger Tom" (hence the nickname "Tiger") in Welsh clubs and pubs. He had his first number one hit in 1964 with "It's Not Unusual". In the decades that followed, he had more or less big hits, especially in his British homeland.

From the late 1980s onwards, Jones made a name for himself through collaborations with other artists. Examples include his collaboration with the pop group Art of Noise on the song "Kiss" in 1988 or the 1999 single "Burning Down The House" with the Cardigans. But above all, many people think of Jones as the song "Sex Bomb", which the German-Turkish music producer Mousse T. wrote especially for him at the turn of the millennium.
