Tony Buzbee: Deshaun-Watson accuser whose son corroborated her claims isn’t one of my clients

Recent reports on one of the claims against Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson raised significant doubts about that particular allegation. It sparked speculation that this was the first piece of evidence that suggested that Watson's many lawsuits were part of a conspiracy or shakedown. Tony Buzbee (the attorney representing the 24 women who sued Watson) has responded to the report.

Here's Josina Anderson's key text from Thursday's tweets: "I'm told there is a recording of an interview [with the adult son] of one of the 12 women the NFL interviewed in Deshaun Watson's case. He stated that his mom was initially complimentary of Watson after their massage but changed her tone and account after hearing negative allegations about Watson. According to a league source, the son told his mother that he wanted to reward her silence. It is possible that the NFL initially was hesitant about the details they received from the woman's child -- even though they only mentioned it in their report. Watson's side later reviewed the recording and discovered the above details. This is likely to explain why Watson did not include this accuser with the five women that the NFL ultimately focused their attention on at the hearing.

Buzbee claims that this accuser is not one of his clients.

Buzbee sent an email to PFT stating that "it has been reported" that 12 alleged victims had spoken to the NFL. "I have confirmed that ten women in question were my clients. None of my clients had their sons questioned by the NFL. As I said, several women called my office to sue Watson. I decided not to represent them based on my experience with trial. I do know that at most one of those women, whom I declined to represent, spoke with the NFL and gave a statement the police. It is possible that it was the woman mentioned in the tweet by Ms. Anderson.

It is still not clear why the NFL did not speak with all Buzbee's clientele, or how they decided to reduce the 12 cases that they examined to the five presented at the hearing. The main takeaway for now is that while some may have viewed Thursday's report to be the first tangible evidence that Buzbee clients' claims are falling apart and that the NFL decided to reduce the 12 cases they investigated to five, Thursday's report did not reveal who the claim was. After reviewing her claims, Buzbee decided not to proceed for her.
