Tour de France. Groenewegen wins 3rd stage of sprint, Van Aert still wearing yellow

Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange), a Dutchman, narrowly won Sunday's sprint of the third stage in the Tour de France. This was done in front of thousands of spectators. Belgian Wout van Auert (Jumbo) finished second for the third consecutive time. This 182-kilometer stage was the last in Denmark prior to the transfer from France.

Groenewegen beat van Aert by one gut. Belgium's Jasper Philipsen came third, ahead of Slovak Peter Sagan (4th), who was apparently not happy to have missed the opening. While the four men finished on the same line, Fabio Jakobsen (Dutchman), who was with his team throughout, was locked in the sprint (fifth).

Inexplicably, the rider responsible for Jakobsen’s serious crash at 2020 Tour of Poland was also crowned with success. Groenewegen was then suspended for nine months. Groenewegen, a 29-year-old Dutchman, won his fifth stage victory in the Tour. He had not raced since 2019, but he was reinstated. His total victories now stands at 62, which is an increase of 62 from his 2016 debut at the highest level.

The last stage of the Danish race before the transfer to France was transformed into a parade with two close-knit spectators. They celebrated Magnus Cort Nielsen of Magnus Cort Nielsen who wore the polka dots jersey of the top climber and then the peloton. After having escaped the previous day, the Danish rider isolated himself from the first km to open the road, with a lead of six minutes. For this extraordinary incursion of Tour in his country, he offered an unforgettable ride of 130 km, in front a peloton that included the main sprinter teams (Quick-Step and Lotto, BikeExchange and Alpecin).

The race was over. The runners planned to travel to Sonderborg airport, near the German border. This will allow them to fly to the north of France. The fourth stage of the Monts du Boulonnais will take place on Tuesday, between Calais and Dunkirk.
