The race starts near the International Cycling Union's headquarters (UCI). It then runs along Lake Geneva, passing through Gruyere, where it reaches the Col des Mosses (2nd classification), and the Col de la Croix (1st category) which is a steeper climb at 7.6%.

To tackle the Pas de Morgins climb (15.4km at 6.1%, 1st class), the Tour route again passes through Aigle. Race director Thierry Gouvenou predicts that a breakaway composed of competent climbers will have every chance of making it all the way. This stage ends with a descent into Abondance Valley followed by a four-kilometer climb above Chatel.

Times: - Departure at 12:30 pm from Aigle (launched at 12.45 p.m.). - Arrival at Chatel at 5:44 pm (schedule calculated at 39km/h on average).
