Transportation. Major disruptions at Gare Nord in Paris due to Catenary Incident

If you are planning to travel Sunday, departing or arriving at Paris' Gare du Nord, be careful. After a TGV Paris-Lille incident at Saint-Denis in the morning, rail traffic has been severely disrupted.

A spokesperson for the SNCF said that the incident could have been caused by the thunderstorms in Ile-de-France last night. However, we aren't sure. The TGV passengers involved had to be evacuated, and they were transferred to another train.

She explained that "for safety reasons, the electricity supply in the area was temporarily cut off, which resulted in the suspension of all trains' circulation." Traffic on the main lines has been gradually restored, but it was already resumed on RER.

Many Eurostar and Thalys trains were also cancelled. Eurostar recommends that travelers "postpone their travel as much as possible." The cross-Channel company tweeted that "all our trains to Paris are subject to major delays or cancellations."

Thalys suggested to customers that they postpone their trip. The company that serves Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands states, "There will not be any departure from Paris or arrival in Paris before 4 pm. Major delays and deletions are to be expected throughout this day."
