Truck driver has near miss with Jersey City park

JERSEY CITY -- The driver behind the wheel of a tractor trailer appeared to make a wrong turn in Downtown Jersey City last night, tying up traffic in the area for a bit as he figured out how to get out of the area.

This is the second time in three months that a truck driver has caused problems in that area of the city, located blocks from the Holland Tunnel. On Dec. 8 a driver drove a truck into Hamilton Park and crashed into its gazebo.

The driver in last night's incident was headed south on Jersey Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. when he attempted to turn right onto Ninth Street, then stopped after realizing he was driving the wrong way on a one-way street, according to a witness.

The driver then had to drive onto the sidewalk leading into Hamilton Park while reorienting in an attempt to head in reverse back up Jersey Avenue to a street wide enough for the truck, the witness said.
