A Puerto Rican court issued an injunction against pop star Ricky Martin in early July for allegedly abusing his nephew. The singer fears for his reputation - and defends himself in court. The latter now proves him right.
According to media reports, court proceedings against Ricky Martin have been dropped. The singer's nephew, who accused Martin, asked a Puerto Rican court to do so, according to industry magazines Variety and People, among others.
The 50-year-old's nephew previously claimed he was in a relationship with him. "Ricky Martin has, of course, never been involved in any kind of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew, and never would be," Martin's attorney said in a recent statement to multiple US media outlets. "The idea is not only untrue, it's disgusting," it said.
The person who made the claim is struggling with "deep mental challenges". In early July, a Puerto Rican court issued an injunction related to a domestic violence law against Martin.
This provisional protection order will not be extended "as we expected," Martin's legal team said in a statement that he posted on Twitter with the words "The truth prevails." The plaintiff confirmed in court that he alone made the decision not to pursue the case - "without any outside influence or pressure".
It was therefore never more than "false allegations", the letter continues. One is glad "that justice has been done to our client and he can now move forward with his life and career".
