Two contradictory reports (from the same reporter), about whether Colin Kaepernick invests in Ice Cube’s BIG3 league.

While Colin Kaepernick is waiting for a call from the NFL to come, Kaepernick wrote a check to Ice Cube's BIG3 Basketball league.

Shams Charania, of TheAthletic.com, reported that Kaepernick had agreed to invest in the 3-on-3 basketball league. Charania reports now, quoting an unnamed Kaepernick representative that Charania's initial report was incorrect.

Unnamed sources close to the BIG3 league provided the first report. Kaepernick's investment was described as potentially saving the league. According to the unnamed representative, Kaepernick did not invest in the league. This raises the obvious question of whether the league will survive.

It was interesting to see the initial news because Ice Cube recently signed a deal to "enhance[ing] NFL's dedication to increasingeconomic equity and partnerships with Black owned business." Kaepernick could have been a broker, helping to build the foundation for bridging the five-year gap between player and league.

We will see where this leads. Charania trusted enough the source to tell him that Kaepernick was there. Charania is able to trust the Kaepernick representative, even though he doesn't know him. It's an interesting story about how Charania was convinced by a source close enough to the BIG3 that Kaepernick was making an investment. This would have otherwise seemed like an extremely random contention.
