Ukraine: night attack of missiles and drones on Dnipro

The Ukrainian city of Dnipro was targeted on the night of Sunday May 21 to Monday May 22 by 16 Russian missiles and 20 explosive drones, according to the Ukrainian army. "Four Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles and twenty Shahed attack drones were destroyed by anti-aircraft defense" during this "night attack", Ukrainian forces said in a statement posted on Facebook. According to regional authorities, seven people were injured.

The Ukrainian army, however, did not give details on the consequences of the 12 missiles that passed through its defenses. Earlier Monday morning, she had said that the Russians had launched "a massive missile and drone attack", without saying where exactly and adding that "details will be published after clarification".

According to a Telegram message from Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov, "there has never been such a massive shelling (on the city) since the beginning of the war". Dnipro, a city of nearly one million before the Russian invasion, is 125 km from the current front line. "People in Dnipro did not sleep and prayed for their relatives and friends," Filatov said.

Since the beginning of May, Russia has increased night bombardments, especially on kyiv. Ukraine ensures that its anti-aircraft defense, reinforced by Western military aid, shoots down most drones and missiles.
