According to Les Echos, Philippe Martinez, secretary general of CGT will inform the Confederation leaders on Tuesday that he has decided not to run for the post of his successor at the March 2023 union congress.

He plans to propose to members of Confederal Executive Commission that Marie Buisson be appointed secretary general of the Federation of Education.

Last week, Mr. Martinez, who was elected secretary general in 2015 said on France Info that he would like a woman to take over the CGT's head "as soon as possible".

From March 27-31, 2023, the 53rd Congress of the CGT will be held in ClermontFerrand.
