A Val-de-Marne policeman was recently convicted of violence against his father. These facts were discovered in August 2019, at a Kremlin-Bicetre police station (Val-de-Marne), a suburb of Paris.
Yann G. had arrived at the police station to collect his son, 15 years old, who was being released from police custody. The father stated that he had no criminal record and the police would have made several rude remarks to him.
The policeman then recounted at the bar "a series punches", kicks to his son, who was "sitting on a ground without protection" and was immobilized by several officers. He said that he had to intervene to calm a very upset father who refused to leave the station.
He described, in front of the criminal court: "An exchange of blows within the melee." Yann G. was hit with a blow. He was not voluntarily doing so because he wanted to avoid being punched in the face. During the proceedings, she stated that she did not have any evidence that would allow her to claim that the son was the victim of police violence.
She criticized the "totally inept attitude" and "outrageous comments" of the father of her family at the courthouse and at police station. Noting that his statements had changed multiple times, she also referred to the testimony of his son. She requested the release of this policeman, and six months suspended imprisonment for the father, who was also present for contempt and rebellion that day.
Each of the father and policeman were sentenced to a 1,500 euro fine. However, the policeman was not sentenced for the violence against the minor.
