Vercheny. Twenty-seven Marist students vomited on a school trip

On Wednesday, June 8, 18 children reported stomach pains, headaches, nausea and vomiting during a class trip. This 6th grade class was from Les Maristes college, Bourg-dePeage and was staying at Vercheny campsite in Drome Valley.

The Dauphine Libere contacted the Regional Health Agency to confirm that 18 of the 29 students had experienced vomiting. Five were taken to the emergency department, while others were referred to their doctors. None were admitted to hospital.

The State services have conducted an investigation and found that there is suspicion of contamination of the water supply by Escherichia Coli. Therefore, the ARS ordered that a sample be taken by CARSO laboratory. Results are expected Monday.

The manager of the campsite took the necessary measures to prohibit the consumption of water after receiving calls from customers. He also made available bottled water. When the results of microbiological analyses, conducted by the ARS will prove compliant, the ban on drinking water will be lifted.
