Victim is in mortal danger: Bremerhaven shooter probably mentally disturbed

The employee of a Bremerhaven school is fighting for her life after being shot. The 21-year-old suspect is now in custody. Police are still investigating what the motive for the crime was.

According to the investigators, the alleged shooter arrested after the attack in a Bremerhaven high school shows mental abnormalities. A police spokeswoman declined to provide any further information. The seriously injured school worker is still in mortal danger.

The motive for the crime on Thursday is still unclear. "The investigations are now picking up speed again," said the police spokeswoman. The exact course of events is not yet fully comprehensible. The perpetrator broke into the school around 9 a.m. and shot the woman with a gun. It is not yet clear whether the perpetrator and the victim knew each other.

A video published by an eyewitness on social media shows the 21-year-old being arrested shortly after the crime near the school. The public prosecutor confirmed the authenticity of the recording. The alleged perpetrator can be seen on it, apparently sitting quietly at a busy intersection in front of a traffic light. A crossbow is lying next to him. When the police approached with blue lights flashing, he lay flat on the ground before the officers arrived. He is arrested without resistance.

The District Court of Bremerhaven issued an arrest warrant on Thursday evening. He is in the correctional facility. The 21-year-old is accused of attempted murder.
