Visit to boxing event: Melanie Müller in right-wing society

Melanie Müller is currently being investigated for a suspected Hitler salute. The Ballermann singer emphasizes that she has nothing to do with the right ideas. Now a video is doing the rounds showing the musician in a boxing match. The backers of the event apparently have connections to the neo-Nazi milieu.

A video made in August shows the pop singer Melanie Müller in a boxing match of the "Frontière – Respect of the Streets" martial arts group in Leipzig. Research by "Spiegel" suggests that the organizer has close ties to the neo-Nazi, hooligan and rocker scene.

Accordingly, Steffen S., one of the founders, wears a Nazi eagle and the words "German fighter" in fracture as tattoos. According to the magazine, one of the main sponsors, Alexander O., had a black sun engraved, a symbol of the SS that neo-Nazis often use as a substitute for the banned swastika. Two double SS victory urns, an SS division skull and crossbones and the words "Blood and Honor" are said to be emblazoned on his left upper arm. The last three motives are punishable in Germany.

According to the report, founder Steffen S. often gets into the ring as a judge at Frontière boxing matches. This also applies to the event in August. His nickname in the scene is "La Vie". He published a photo with Müller on his Instagram profile. In the picture, his questionable tattoos are hidden under a t-shirt.

Compared to "Spiegel", Müller justified her participation in the event by saying that she was an "enthusiastic boxing fan" and "invited there". The event was "sold to her and her management as a charity event". She doesn't know anything about connections to the Nazi, hooligan and rocker scene.

Organizer Frontière, in turn, said on request that Müller had come spontaneously. There was no invitation. And it was originally planned to support an association for grieving children and young people with the event. However, there were "problems" with the organization and implementation, so that the event took place without an entrance fee.

Frontière distanced itself from right-wing extremist groups and did not follow any political direction, it said. "Anyone who knows us better knows that we are completely cosmopolitan." Political ideas and political statements are "forbidden". Based on the registrations, Frontière could not confirm that there were hooligans among their fighters. But you can't "examine everyone". Tattoos also have "more to do with martial arts" than with political statements. Founder Steffen S. and sponsor Alexander O. did not want to comment on "Spiegel".

Müller is currently being investigated on suspicion of using license plates of unconstitutional organizations. Another video appeared in mid-September showing Müller during a performance in front of the Leipzig hooligan group "Rowdys Eastside". You can see the 34-year-old intoning the football fan chant "East, East, East Germany". Then her right arm shoots up several times in a row.

She doesn't show the Hitler salute, claims Müller. "As often during my performances, she shouted the saying 'Zicke-zacke, zigzag, hoi, hoi, hoi' to bring the mood" and rhythmically yanked his arm up.
