War in Ukraine: "Beaver", what is this Ukrainian drone that attacked Moscow

This is the largest response from the Ukrainian army on Russian soil since the start of the war. On Tuesday, May 30, Moscow was the target of an attack by guided drones, forcing the Russian anti-aircraft defense to intervene. Three of them left minor damage against civilian buildings, Numerama reports.

Among these devices that targeted the Russian capital, alongside the Ukrainian UJ-22, appeared a new type of kamikaze drone: the Beaver ("beaver", in French). Manufactured by Ukroboronprom, an association of builders for the Ukrainian army, its use has been unprecedented since the beginning of the conflict. Equipped with a thermal engine, this drone is made up of propelling propellers and is recognizable by its duck shape, with small wings at the front and large ones at the back.

This new generation device would be able to carry around twenty kilos of explosives and its particular constitution would prevent its stall, that is to say a sudden loss of speed in flight.

For anyone confused the Videos are not in reverse with the Drone almost looking like an Israeli "Harop" Loitering Munition though it isn’t, seems to be an entirely "Unknown Drone Type" with a Turboprop in the Rear and 2 Front and Side Wings. pic.twitter.com/9elKImqQJt

If the Beaver was able to reach Moscow on Tuesday, it could soon be used by the Ukrainian military for other missions closer to the border, such as destroying refineries.

As The Independent points out, kyiv has still not claimed responsibility for this attack and denies any responsibility. If these are indeed Ukrainian-made weapons, it is not to be excluded that civilians are at the origin. Some Ukrainians have already managed in the past to obtain this type of drone. For its part, the Kremlin holds Ukraine responsible for this attack, which it considers to be retaliation for its own strikes on kyiv.
