Although it's not yet summer, the mercury is already running high: Meteo-France has set a record heat for June in Cap Corse (northern part of the island of Beauty), with 37.4 degrees. Before June 30, 2019, when it was 36.6 degrees Celsius.

Meteo-France's Twitter account states that it is the 8th highest value for all months, for the station with more than 100 years worth of data (opened in 1917). All seven other stations were identified between July and August.

This is also the first time that the thermometer has exceeded 37 degrees Celsius in France since 2022, at least on the main Meteo-France station network. It was 37.1 degrees Celsius in Ajaccio this Saturday.

"It is amazing to beat a value at an old and emblematic station at month's beginning. This also reflects the Mediterranean hot surface anomaly. On Twitter, Gaetan Heymes, a forecasting engineer, said that he was worried about the summer ahead.

This record is the same day as the Meteo-France report for spring (March-April-May). This period saw a rainfall deficit of 45%, which was below the normal. It is the third driest spring in 20 years, after 1976 and 2011, the year of historic drought.

It was also the third-warmest spring. It was the hottest month on record with an average temperature 17.8degC. This is one degree more than the May 2011 record.

Meteo-France expects a warm and dry summer in a global warming context (June-July-August).
