A woman was struck by an ICE train at Burg train station in Saxony-Anhalt and injured her foot. The 25-year-old is said to have sat on the edge of the platform on Wednesday evening and read a book. The federal police said on Thursday that she dangled her legs on the track.
The driver of the incoming train issued a warning signal and initiated emergency braking when he saw the woman. The 25-year-old heard the signal and tried to get up, but didn't make it in time. The train hit the woman at a speed of 150 kilometers per hour, only slightly slower than before braking.
According to the police, the woman was taken to a hospital with a profusely bleeding wound on her foot. The train with around 550 passengers on board only came to a standstill after 400 meters and blocked a level crossing. Nobody was injured on the train. The route was closed for almost two hours. Twelve trains were delayed, including five long-distance trains.
The 25-year-old is now being investigated, among other things, because of a dangerous intervention in rail traffic. The federal police pointed out that such actions can be life-threatening. Incoming trains approached almost silently. They would also have an enormous suction effect. According to the police, it was a diverted train from Amsterdam to Berlin.
