"Wretched country": Green Day singer wants to leave the United States

The men of the punk rock group Green Day were never at a loss for clear words. But now frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has burst the hat cord in such a way that he even publicly announces his emigration from the USA. The reason: the abortion ruling of the Supreme Court.

The reversed "Roe versus Wade" judgment continues to make waves in the United States. Now Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong also addressed it during a concert in London. Apparently he's so upset about the decision that he's considering personal consequences.

The 50-year-old said during his appearance that he was considering moving to Great Britain. "I'm renouncing my citizenship," he called out to the audience on stage, "I'm coming here." This is reported, among other things, by the newspaper "USA Today".

The guitarist and singer called his home country a "pathetic country" where there is "just too much stupidity". His announcement was meant seriously, Armstrong emphasized. Much more will be said about him in the coming days, he prophesied.

Armstrong and his band Green Day have never been at a loss for a political statement. Among other things, they shot several times against the Republican ex-presidents George W. Bush and Donald Trump. They are assigned to the political left spectrum.

Last week, the US Supreme Court overturned the nearly 50-year-old "Roe versus Wade" ruling in a landmark decision on abortion law. As of now, there is no longer a national right in the USA to have an abortion performed. Each state can now freely decide whether and for how long an abortion is legal.

After this decision, some states have already passed laws that categorically exclude abortion and only allow it in medical emergencies. Thus, the children must also be carried in cases of rape or incest.
