Years ago Twitter entries have cost director of science fiction film series Guardians of Galaxy, James Gunn, now his job. Disney fired 51-year-old on Friday because he had made jokes about rape and paedophilia in short news. Most of tweets criticized by his employer originate from years 2008 to 2011.
In one of tweets, Gunn wrote, for example: The best thing about being raped is feeling of Vergewaltigtwerden, ' Uff, that feels great not to be raped! 'Right Twitter users had dug up Gunn's old tweets
"The insulting attitudes and statements discovered on James ' Twitter page are unjustifiable and contradict values of our film company," said Disney boss Alan Horn in an opinion spread by many U.S. media. Gunn told industry magazine Hollywood Reporter that he regretted his tweets and took full responsibility for ir content. On Thursday, US director had stated on Twitter that he deliberately provoked and wanted to break taboos in order to generate reactions. "I don't mean to say that I've been better," said Gunn, "but I'm quite, quite different from a few years ago."
Gunn is a loud critic of US president Donald Trump. Mike Cernovic and Jack Posobiec, two well-known provocateurs of alt-right movement, had researched and disseminated Gunn's tweets.
