The guarantee from the Federal government for travel vouchers for cancellations due to Corona has the approval from Brussels. The EU Commission approved the state aid in the amount of 840 million euros on Friday. The scheme should make the vouchers as an Alternative to the reimbursement of travel costs, more attractive, and so the travel industry can help. Nevertheless, customers have the right to compensation, if you prefer.
The government had considered –like other EU countries –first of all, to make vouchers mandatory. Because the travel industry is afraid of billions in refunds for vacations, which had to be cancelled because of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the EU Commission raised objections. Therefore, the Federal government decided to guarantee. So the customers do not have to fear that they will remain in an insolvency of the organiser on the value of free vouchers to sit.
