Eight new ones for the electric world: These electric cars will come in 2023

The range of electric car models is constantly growing. Whether the VW E-Passat, a new Chinese brand with battery replacement stations or the first Maserati under power: the new electric cars for 2023 will provide plenty of excitement.

E-cars will continue to be on the rise in the coming year. The manufacturers' range of new models and thus the choice for customers is growing significantly. Here are eight exciting newcomers to the Watt scene.

Aiways U6

A motto for the coming car year is: The Chinese are coming. Airways is already there. Since 2020. At that time, the electric SUV U5 was introduced, which will now have a sister model, the SUV coupe U6, from the beginning of 2023. The 4.80 meter long crossover, which costs 47,600 euros, has an output of 160 kW/218 hp and has a range of up to 400 kilometers with a 63 kWh battery. The five-door also promises a lot of space in the interior, which will also offer a thrust lever like in a jet and a new display and operating concept with a large touchscreen.

Audi Q6 e-Tron

Audi is expecting offspring for its Q stable next year. With the Q6 e-Tron, the Ingolstadt-based company will also be introducing another electric model on the PPE platform shared with Porsche. The sister model of the future electric Macan should offer between 400 to 600 hp and a range of 500 to 700 kilometers. Thanks to the 800-volt architecture, the Q6 will also be at the top level when it comes to fast charging. It remains to be seen whether the Q6 will make it onto the road in 2023 as originally planned. According to new reports, its development is taking longer than initially planned. If the Q6 only celebrates its premiere at the IAA 2023, the market launch could drag on until 2024.

Ford E-Crossover

For its European business, Ford also wants to offer electrically powered volume models in the future. This role is to be taken over next year by an initially nameless crossover below the Mustang Mach-E, which will be technically based on VW's MEB electrical kit. Basically, it is a sister model of the ID.4, which should probably offer a range of up to 500 kilometers. The new Stromer is to be built with VW technology at the main plant in Cologne. There, the electric Ford should fill the gap that will arise with the end of production of the Fiesta. Prices for the upcoming crossover should start at just under 40,000 euros in view of the current entry-level price of the ID.4.

Maserati Grecale Folgore

Maserati is also going electric. The first is the Grecale SUV model, which was launched this year and will be available with the addition of the Folgore name from next year with a BEV drive alongside the petrol-driven variants. The battery holds 105 kWh. With one motor per axle and a combined output of around 400 kW/544 hp and 800 Newton meters of torque, the trident promises a lot of longitudinal dynamics.

Nio ET5, ET7 and EL7

In addition to Chinese newcomers such as Cat, Wey or BYD, Nio 2023 is also daring to enter the German market. The young brand is not only positioning itself clearly against Tesla, it is also rolling out its battery replacement system in Germany. Anyone who buys a new Nio without a battery now has the option of exchanging empty batteries for full ones at special stations. The process takes a few minutes and saves time compared to charging on Hyperchargers. The entry-level model, the ET5 sedan, is available from 50,000 euros, the larger ET7 from 70,000 euros and the EL7 SUV from 74,000 euros - each without a battery. The energy storage can either be booked as a subscription or purchased. In the second case, an additional 12,000 euros are due for the 75 kWh battery, 100 kWh costs 21,000 euros. In the "Battery-as-a-Service" case, 170 euros are due for the smaller version and 290 euros per month for the larger one.

Opel Astra Electric

In the spring of 2023, Opel's compact classic Astra will be launched as a five-door model and in the Sports Tourer estate variant with purely battery-electric drive. For the drive, Opel combines a 115 kW/156 hp electric motor with a 54 kWh underbody battery. The Astra Electric can travel up to 170 km/h and a range of up to 416 kilometers. Suitability for everyday use also includes a spacious and versatile interior. In the case of the Sports Tourer, the 516-litre trunk can be expanded to 1,553 liters if required. The entry-level prices should be beyond 40,000 euros.

Smart

2023 heralds a new start for the Smart brand. Parallel to the Fortwo, which will continue to be produced in Hambach, France, Smart will be using the

VW ID.7

Whether compact, SUV or van segment - VW's ID family has already made itself felt in many sectors. The ID.7, the first electric sedan from Wolfsburg, is to follow in 2023. In terms of length, it will range between the Passat and Phaeton and offer a quite stately format. As with other ID models, its drive technology is based on the MEB electrical construction kit. It has not yet been revealed in which drive and battery configurations the ID.7 will be offered. However, VW has announced a range of up to 700 kilometers, which indicates a larger battery format and/or better efficiency than is currently usual on an MEB basis.
