Even more locations before the end?: Buero.de investor is no longer interested in Kaufhof branches

The online retailer Buero.de actually wanted to take over up to 47 branches of the insolvent department store chain Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof. According to Managing Director Markus Schön, rumors of even more closures have sent a fatal sign.

The online retailer Buero.de is no longer interested in taking over up to 47 branches of the insolvent department store chain Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof. "From our point of view, the reports about further intentions to close were fatal," says Buero.de managing director Markus Schön in a message that is available to ntv.de. The rumors of even more closures have led to changed framework conditions that are not acceptable to the company.

Even if, according to Schön, the current rumors of closure could possibly increase the negotiating power vis-à-vis landlords and suppliers, the associated expected loss of qualified employees cannot be compensated for. "We have always said that the employees are the company's greatest asset," says Schön.

However, without these qualified employees, the company is no longer convinced of the chances of success of a takeover. According to Schön, after the horror news for Galeria employees of up to 90 locations to be closed and the loss of probably every second job, it would be presumptuous to believe that the good people would wait a long time to look for a job.

An internal letter from the general works council recently revealed that up to 90 branches are on the verge of closure. Up to 30 percent of the staff could also be reduced in the other branches, it said. This is intended to reduce the personnel cost ratio by three percent below the current average, reported the "Lebensmittelzeitung". Savings should therefore be made in the service center in particular.
