Exceptional frame: Pedelec Honike U4 - chic look, good price

Attractive design does not have to be expensive, as the Honbike U4 shows. Despite the electric drive and some smart solutions, it costs well under 2000 euros. Special feature of the U4 city pedelec: the minimalist frame.

With the new U4, the young bicycle brand Honbike has expanded its range with a simple and slim city pedelec with an unusual frame design. Although an eye-catcher, it remains a very cheap offer with a price of around 1700 euros.

The special feature of the U4 is a minimalist frame that looks clean thanks to internally routed cables. It consists of a longitudinal tube that slopes down from the front to the rear and extends from the steering tube to the rear wheel hub. The long frame component is crossed directly by the steering tube, while the seat tube crosses laterally. Thanks to this peculiarity, viewed from above, the longitudinal tube runs slightly diagonally on its way to the rear wheel, but the 27.5-inch wheels remain in alignment. On the left side there is another chainstay that extends from the bottom bracket to the rear wheel. The airy construction looks cleverly made, but not exceptionally stable. After all, the 20-kilogram bike should be suitable for a 120-kilogram load.

The e-bike technology of the U4 is well concealed. A 250 watt machine is integrated in the rear wheel, and power comes from a 432 Wh battery for a range of up to 100 kilometers, which is completely hidden in the slim frame. A display integrated into the handlebar stem provides information about the battery level and speed level - there are three to choose from. The connection between the pedal drive and the rear wheel is made by a carbon belt from Gates.

The equipment includes an integrated lighting system, mechanical disc brakes, lightweight magnesium wheels, mudguards and a side stand. The U4 can also be connected to a smartphone. With the Honbike app, the cell phone can be used as an on-board computer, for navigation and to activate the electronic lock of the electric drive system.

Honbike is currently selling the U4 online. The price of 1700 euros also includes delivery within three working days.
