Fallas 2023 Fiestas: when are they, dates, holidays and program

Gunpowder, ephemeral monuments, flowers, music and fire return. The countdown of the Fallas 2023 has begun and Valencia is finalizing the preparations to celebrate its big party in style. We tell you about the official program of the fallas in which some of the most solemn acts open their schedule and even location.

The official Fallas 2023 Celebrations program started at the beginning of the year with events such as the Exaltation of the Fallera Mayor of Valencia (January 27 and 28) or the inauguration of the Ninot Exhibition (February 3). But it is the Crida, with the greatest fallera and child fallera of Valencia, gathering all the fallas commissions in the Torres de Serrano for the proclamation, which marks the starting signal for the festivities; This year, the welcome message to the Fallas takes place on the last Sunday of February, which this year falls on the 26th (7:00 p.m.).

Only three days after the Crida, on March 1, a daily appointment begins in the Town Hall square with the "mascletà" (2:00 p.m.), a gunpowder bacchanalia that will last until the 19th.

The main days of the Fallas 2023, the big week, are concentrated from March 16, once the monuments have been planted, with an almost uninterrupted agenda between prizes, offerings, parades, fireworks displays, parades... Until moment of the "cremà", on March 19, which will put an end to the Fallas. All of this without counting on the contest of the illuminated streets, the multiple festivals in the neighborhoods and other activities organized by the commissions in the neighborhoods. The boisterous party returns.

One of the main novelties of the Fallas 2023 is the change in the location of the firing point of the Fallas fireworks, including the Nit del Foc; This will continue in the old course of the Turia River, although now it will be at the height of the Palau de les Arts and not of the Alameda. Other novelties are the reduction of festivals in certain central areas or the suggestion of the Fallas faction not to launch firecrackers between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

According to Valencia's 2023 work calendar, March 19, Saint Joseph's Day, will not be a holiday as it falls on a Sunday. Nor will Monday the 20th be a holiday in the city, although it will be in the Community of Madrid. Now, Valencian children will have the entire week of fallas available after being declared non-school on March 15, 16 and 17, 2023, thus chaining the weekend of the 18th and 19th.
