A Belgian couple who did not want to buy an extra ticket for their baby, considering that he should fly for free, left the child at the check-in counter at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport in Israel.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the couple tried to board a Ryanair flight from Tel Aviv to Brussels, but they did not have a ticket for their baby. To travel with babies in the Ryanair company, you can buy a seat for the child paying a normal rate, or you can pay 20 euros and take the child on your lap.

The Belgian couple refused to pay for an extra ticket and apparently left the child at check-in, according to the Jerusalem Post.

The airport staff realized what had happened and called the police, who questioned the parents.

Ryanair's office manager told the Jerusalem Post they were shocked: "We had never seen anything like this, we couldn't believe what we were seeing."

According to the Israel Airports Authority, what happened was that the couple arrived late at Terminal 1 after they closed the check-in counter and wanted to go through to deal with security, so they left the baby on the carousel.
