Local Police agents arrested last Sunday in Zaragoza Ignacio Magaña Sierra, a socialist councilor for the Aragonese capital City Council, for driving without points. It is expected that this Tuesday he will be tried for a crime against road safety.

As has been known this Tuesday, the events occurred around 4:50 a.m. on Sunday on the Camino de las Torres in the Aragonese capital when a Local Police patrol stopped him for having committed a traffic violation. When checking the driver's license with the station, they confirmed that it lacked all the points. In June 2020, Magaña was already fined 1,900 euros and four points were withdrawn from his license for speeding and without insurance.

The aforementioned councilor had joined the socialist municipal group last October after being acquitted of a case of gender violence against his wife, for which he was arrested on November 11, 2021 and tried.

During the trial, held behind closed doors, Magaña defended his innocence and assured that he had never mistreated his wife and explained that his complaint was solely due to a separation process. The woman reiterated what she said on her day before the National Police, who came to classify the case as a high risk level in the Viogen system.

She confessed that the most serious event and in which she felt "most afraid" would have occurred last winter when she wanted to leave the family home.

As he recounted in the complaint, "Ignacio reacted aggressively by pushing me against the bed, preventing me from moving by grabbing my neck. He went to the kitchen, took a knife, putting it to my chest and telling me that on top of his corpse I was going to get out of there."

The mayor was discharged as a PSOE militant, but he did not renounce his minutes and continued his work in plenary sessions and commissions as a non-attached. Once the court ruling was known, he requested his reinstatement into the ranks of the PSOE, following the guidelines of the party's code of ethics.

After being accepted by the national leadership of the party, the municipal group formally requested her return before the general secretary of the plenary session of the Zaragoza City Council.

In addition to being a councilor, Magaña, a former deputy in Congress, was a member of the Zaragoza Provincial Executive and the Regional Committee as well as general secretary of the Torrero-Este de Zaragoza Association.

The PSOE Zaragoza has opened a disciplinary file against Magaña and has temporarily suspended him from militancy until said file is resolved. He reacts like this after learning that the councilor was arrested last Sunday for driving without points on his license.

In a statement, said party has indicated that "from the PSOE Zaragoza we condemn this type of behavior and attitudes. We are not going to tolerate any socialist public official committing this type of irregularity. That is why we act quickly and forcefully, demanding exemplarity from all our public charges".

Likewise, it has announced that this Thursday the Provincial Executive Commission of the PSOE Zaragoza "will address said file and act accordingly."
