New research laboratory planned: Musk also wants to compete with ChatGPT

The software ChatGPT, which is based on artificial intelligence, is getting more and more competition. Tech billionaire Musk also wants to jump on the hype. The Twitter boss is hiring a former AI expert who recently left Alphabet.

According to a media report, Tesla and Twitter boss Elon Musk wants to jump on the success of the text-based chatbot ChatGPT with a new research laboratory for artificial intelligence (AI). Musk has recruited Igor Babushkin, a researcher who recently left Alphabet's AI unit DeepMind, technology news site The Information reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

Musk and Babushkin talked about putting together a team to advance AI research. The project is still in the early stages and there is no concrete plan for the development of specific products, the report quotes from an interview with Babushkin. Musk and Babushkin could not be immediately reached for comment. The big tech companies expect bubbling profits from the new technology, which became known to the general public through OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Musk, who co-founded OpenAI with Silicon Valley investor Sam Altman as a nonprofit startup in 2015, left the company's board of directors in 2018 but came forward with his opinion on the chatbot, calling it "scary good." The text-based chatbot can create complete texts within seconds using a few keywords, among other things.

In the battle for technological AI leadership, new companies enter the ring almost every day. They expect bubbling profits from this technology, which hit the headlines worldwide through ChatGPT. The latest challenger is called "HunyuanAide" and is being developed by Tencent, insiders said.

The world's largest video games provider has put together a development team for this purpose. According to a Chinese newspaper report, the AI software achieved a record in a test of its understanding of the Chinese language last November. When asked, Tencent repeated the announcement from early February that the company was researching AI software.
