Puma descends: Porsche moves up to the Dax

The Dax is becoming even more car-heavy: Just over two months after its IPO, the Stuttgart-based sports car maker Porsche has moved up to the leading index Dax. For the sporting goods manufacturer Puma, it goes down in the MDax.

Before Christmas, another car manufacturer will be included in the Dax, the Volkswagen subsidiary Porsche AG. There are also some changes in the MDax and SDax. Because of the inclusion of Porsche AG in the leading index Dax, the sporting goods manufacturer Puma has been relegated to the MDax and is displacing the battery manufacturer Varta, which has been relegated to the SDax small-cap index. Deutsche Börse announced this late in the evening. As a result, the online fashion retailer About You falls out of the SDax.

In addition, Deutsche Wohnen, which is currently still listed in the MDax, and the bioethanol manufacturer Verbio, which is listed in the SDax, will swap places. The changes will take effect on Monday 19 December. They are important for funds that track indices. You then have to redeploy accordingly.

With the chip manufacturer Elmos Semiconductor and the subsidiary of the US telecom supplier Adtran, Adva (Optical), there are also two climbers in the SDax. In return, the real estate developer Instone and the special pharmaceuticals provider and wholesaler Medios will be removed from the small-cap index. Aside from Adva and Medios, pundits had largely anticipated the changes in the indices.

Porsche went public just over two months ago and has since gained almost 30 percent. The company is now valued at a good 98 billion euros.
