Relaxation in sight?: Musk predicts the end of inflation

The US is suffering from record inflation. The central bank is aggressively counteracting this. Tesla boss Elon Musk already sees signs that the situation is normalizing.

According to Elon Musk, high inflation in the US may have peaked. "Inflation could trend down," the Tesla boss tweeted. The reason for this assessment: The price development for most of the raw materials used in the production of electric cars is going down.

However, this does not necessarily mean that Tesla will not raise the price. When asked if the cars will get more expensive, Musk said it's too early to say for sure.

The inflation rate in the US is 9.1 percent. This is the highest level since the end of 1981. The US Federal Reserve is trying to get the price increase under control by raising interest rates sharply. This week it raised key interest rates by 0.75 percentage points - just like in June. After this double whammy, the key monetary policy rate is now in a range of 2.25 to 2.5 percent. The Fed has promised further rate hikes.

Inflation is also being fueled by factors over which it has no control: Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine is making energy more expensive. The tough lockdowns in China are repeatedly disrupting global supply chains, causing supply bottlenecks and thus leading to higher prices.
